What is Portuguese Women in Tech?

Portuguese Women in Tech was launched in April 2016, by Liliana Castro and Inês Santos Silva, with a dual mission: we want to support women in technology by providing visibility, networking, mentorship, and other opportunities. But we also want to attract more women and girls to tech and, in this way, increase the pipeline.

What are the PWIT Awards?

The Awards are a moment of celebration for our community and the work done in the past few years. We launched the PWIT Awards in 2018, and since then, we have had thousands of people participating by nominating women in tech, voting, and promoting the initiative. In 2022 we have its 5th edition.

How are the PWIT Awards 2022 going to work?

In the 2022 edition, we have 11 updated categories:

  • Engineering (Software Developer, QA, etc)
  • Business Operations & Innovation (Revenue Operations, Sales Operations, Marketing Ops, Digital Transformation, etc)
  • Customer Experience (Customer Support, Customer Success)
  • Data & Analytics
  • Product Manager
  • Designer (UX/UI Design)
  • People, Culture & Talent Acquisition
  • Best Startup in Portugal started by a Woman
  • Founder / Co-Founder
  • Community Lead
  • Revenue, Growth, Marketing & Sales

1st Phase

In the 1st phase, we’ll have nominations where anyone can nominate any woman working in the Portuguese Tech Scene or a Portuguese woman working in tech abroad.

The number of nominations will dictate who advances to the next phase (ie. if there are 20 women nominated for the same category, the women with more nominations will be the ones to advance to the next phase). The four women with the most votes will be considered finalists and announced on October 17th.

2nd Phase

In the 2nd phase, a jury panel of women in tech will select the winners based on their CVs and accomplishments. This jury panel was picked based on their active participation in the Portuguese Women in Tech initiatives and diverse backgrounds. We’ll ensure no conflict of interest between the jury members and the finalists as well as make sure that no jury members are a part of sponsor companies.

We are still confirming the last women on our jury panel, but you can already check some of them:

Susana de Sousa

Sofia Matos

Silvia Coimbra

Ana Margarida Trigo

Manuela Doutel Haghighi

You can learn more about this process in our Rules for the PWIT Awards 2022.
