Early years and where you came from?
I grew up in a small city in Portugal, Torres Vedras, and moved to Lisbon for university. I got a degree in Occupational Therapy and after some months of practice, I realized I wanted a different lifestyle. So I started to learn about Digital Marketing by myself, bought a one-way ticket to India, co-created TravelB4Settle and started my Digital Nomad lifestyle and career.
How were you introduced to the world of the Portuguese tech industry?
Technology was never something I cared about. Until I understand I could use technology in my favor. Technology and the internet allowed me to live the life of my dreams! And now I love it :)
Walk me through your work and what you are doing now in the tech industry.
I help others starting to work online and achieve a digital nomad lifestyle, through online courses, workshops, my website (www.travelb4settle.com) and social media channels (www.instagram.com/travelb4settle). Also help small & medium businesses creating and growing an online presence through digital marketing.
What part of what you do, you love the most?
When I make a difference in people’s lives. Either by helping someone achieving the freedom they wanted by starting to work online or by helping companies to grow.
How do you think that your background and knowledge impact the way you approach your work in the Portuguese tech industry?
I have always been a very proactive person and got involved in all kinds of projects and volunteer jobs. This made me start a business in an area that I knew nothing about and makes me believe I CAN do everything I want to.
What advice do you have for young women that want to get into tech and don’t know where to start?
My advice would be to focus on learning. Knowledge is the most powerful tool we can have. Learn new skills if needed, don’t be afraid to say ‘’I don’t know’’. And don’t forget to learn to become a better person. Self-development is very important for success as well.
Walk me through a day in your life as a Portuguese women in tech.
As a digital nomad, I travel the world while working online, so I split my day between exploring the place I am in and working on my computer. I would start my day with my morning routine (yoga, journaling and meditation), then I would jump to work. As I don’t have an office, I am always changing from home (wherever I am), a cafe or a cowork to work from. Before sunset, I know it is time to finish up and go to enjoy the sunset at the closest beach.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I like to think human connections are huge for everything in life, from a business perspective to our personal life. In the early stage of my business, someone told me how networking could impact our business. The opportunities that can be created and the boost it can be for ourselves as humans and for our business itself. It wasn’t hard for me to embrace networking and to understand the true impact it can have!
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?
Asana, Instagram, Gmail, Youtube, Google, Adobe Lightroom, Wordpress…The list could go on and on.
Anything else you want to share?
My website. Right now I am working in my first online product, an online course about how to start working online, describing in detail 12 ways to work online, how to start, helpful tools and a progression plan. It is coming soon!
