Andréa Toucinho, Director of Studies, Prospective and Training, Partelya Consulting

Early years and where you came from?

European expert in payments and financial services, I started my activities in this sector in 2008 as Journalist — Editor in Chief of Point Banque magazine and head of “PayForum” and “Banque et Innovation” events. After ten years in this context, I moved to the consulting area and developed activities at a European level, first as Consultant and then as Director of Studies, Prospective and Training of Partelya Consulting.

How were you introduced to the world of the Portuguese tech industry?

In 2018, during my activities as a Consultant, I joined the Portuguese fintech association (Afip) as France Representative. I also developed collaborations in Portuguese payments and financial services market for instance in participating in events organized by European Women Payments Network (EWPN) Portugal.

Walk me through your work and what you are doing now in the tech industry.

As Director of Studies, Prospective and Training of Partelya Consulting, I write analysis, white papers, studies about payments and financial services. I also organize events and training in France and Europe about these topics. I use to participate in many French, European and international events in these markets as speaker or influencer to share my vision and insights (Money 20/20 Europe, Africa Pay ID Expo, European Payment Summit…).

Furthermore, I am also Country Ambassador for France of European Women Payments Network (EWPN) and France Representative of Spanish and Portuguese fintech associations (Aefi Spain and Afip Portugal). I have realized 2 books about payments and I am one of the co-authors of The PAYTech Book, published in London by Wiley

What part of what you do, you love the most?

I love sharing my knowledge about diverse countries at a European and international level and learning more and more things about payments and financial services. I also enjoy creating networks and coaching and mentoring women about these markets.

How do you think that your background and knowledge impact the way you approach your work in the Portuguese tech industry?

As a European expert in payments and financial services, I have the possibility to share some information about the way these markets are evolving in various countries. I share the books and analysis that I have realized about the payments market with the Portuguese community and I participate as a speaker in various events about these markets. I also present, in many European and international events, the specificities of Portugal and Portuguese payments and the financial services market. I put some experts in contact at a European level.

What advice do you have for young women that want to get into tech and don’t know where to start?

The most important is to gather some information and knowledge about the specificities of the market and to create a network. Then, there is no secret: to work each day.

Walk me through a day in your life as a Portuguese women in tech.

Sharing some information through my European network, participating in a conference as a speaker, writing some analysis, sharing some insights during a meeting with my colleagues…

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

The most important is to work!

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?

• Financial Times, The Economist, Publico, Le Monde, Les Echos… and various press app to gather some information about the market.
• LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram to gather some information and share key insights about market/events at an international level.
