Early years and where you came from?

I studied Communication at the University of Minho, specializing in advertising and public relations. Later, I interned at a software development company where I wrote articles and managed their communication.

How were you introduced to the world of the Portuguese tech industry?

I received an invite in my 2nd year of university to create content for a digital product (a platform to help entrepreneurs named STARTHERE). I joined a Portuguese software development team and was really fascinated by the work that they did and how their products boosted and helped the clients and their businesses.

Walk me through your work and what you are doing now in the tech industry.

As a Community Manager, I mainly focus on managing our team, Communication and Marketing. I like to keep up with tech news and trends to understand what people are talking about nowadays in order to help me in my endless search for how we can be creative with the products we build.

What part of what you do, you love the most?

I love writing our case studies. It gives me the perfect opportunity to tell about our work in a way that everyone will not only understand what we do and how we helped a client with their problem but also share the way we work and our process. We really take pride in it.

How do you think that your background and knowledge impact the way you approach your work in the Portuguese tech industry?

My background in Communication really taught me that regardless of what I’m writing about, everyone should be able to comprehend it. So, this challenge of translating technology into something that is clear and understandable to everyone is one of my favorite parts.

What advice do you have for young women that want to get into tech and don’t know where to start?

First, you should start by understanding what your passion is. When you know that, you should look for a company whose work and spirit you admire. You should also look into their values and approach to confirm if it’s a perfect match.

Walk me through a day in your life as a Portuguese women in tech.

As a Portuguese woman in tech, my day includes reading a lot about technology, making sure that I learn a little bit about it every day, and that I’m informed. Then, I create digital content: images, videos, and text for our social media and blog. It can be educational, motivational, or informative.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.

What apps/software/tools can’t you live without?

I use Figma, UNUM and Canva a lot.

Anything else you would like to share?

I believe that if you don’t go out of your comfort zone, you’ll never discover your best skills and your true passion. I would have never known that I’d like digital products and technology at first. I always thought that I’d be working in fashion. But building products that help companies produce better, improve processes or simply communicate better is very gratifying.
